Joe D'AmatoJoe D'Amato is one of the Italian film industry's most prolific directors. In a career that spans over twenty years, he has directed westerns and romance pictures, although he is best known in this country for his horror efforts. Foremost among these are Buried Alive, Trap Them and Kill Them and Caligula, The Untold Story, which makes Bob Guccione's 1980 similarly-titled X-rated production look like Lassie Come Home As successful as these were, it was the stunning Deep Red, released in 1975, that established Argento as one of the screen's premier masters of the horror/suspense genres. Deep Red‰s eye-bursting cinematography (colors appear to literally bleed off the screen), swooping camera work, and loud music played by Argento's own rock band, Goblin, set the standard for all of Argento's subsequent efforts.
